Creating a delightful balance between serenity and optimism, it’s no wonder that sage green has become the go-to colour for home interiors over the past few months. With Pinterest reporting a five-fold increase in searches for this subtle shade, it’s a trend that looks set to continue to grow over the next year.

Keying in with the biophilia trend, which saw many of us bring the outside in courtesy of an array of houseplants, embellishing the home with soothing natural tones allows us to reconnect with nature and breathe life and energy into our everyday.

There are so many ways to refresh your spaces with this airy colour, from full scale room renovations through to easy updates with the addition of a few well chosen accessories.

A soft restful colour

“Fresh, optimistic and soothing, green is having a moment in interior design. Sage green is a particularly popular choice, providing a soft, restful colour that can be built upon. Combine with neutral and simple accessories to create a modern minimalist look or introduce velvet for a more opulent feel.”

A shade for the whole home

“If you are remodelling your room, green makes a fantastic shade for your walls and woodwork”, Helen Shaw, UK Director at internationally renowned paint experts Benjamin Moore, comments. “Although big, bold colour has taken off in recent years we are still, by nature, a little more conservative with the shades we choose in our homes. And now we have another new neutral on the block – say hello to sage. This muted and subdued soft green can take you from season to season, feeling fresh and spring-like as the weather warms up and positive and upbeat in the darker winter months.”

Reflecting the hues of the natural world, with this shade on the walls, it works well with subtle pale grey upholstery and rugs.

Not everyone has the budget or ambitions to undertake a full scale room refresh so what else can we look out for to add a flavour of this trend to our homes?

Sage Green works wonderfully in bedrooms, its calming tones help to create that soothing atmosphere we all crave. Investing in new bed linen is a hugely impactful way of quickly refreshing the space. Introducing a new colour can be transformative, especially when combined with tactile crushed linen. If space and budget allows, consider pairing this update with a small accent chair. Versatile and decorative, they add a touch of hotel chic to the bedroom.
