Hi, I’m Deborah and thanks to my job as Property Editor and Interiors Writer for a national newspaper I’m lucky enough to get an early look at new furniture trends coming our way each season; as well as hearing the inside story from some of the brightest talents in design. This year we’re in for a real treat with Sofology’s 14 new Autumn launches and below I’ve highlighted four of the most versatile designs that will fit with our new post-lockdown focus on work-life balance.
They say the kitchen is the heart of the home but it’s the sofa that’s our comfort zone. By day you might use yours as a make-shift office or the place to take the weight off your feet when you come home; but at night it’s your very own time-out hub. You can plump up those cushions and sink into the upholstery while you phone a friend, cuddle up with your family, watch TV or just relax with a book and a glass of wine. Whether it’s luxurious leather, crushed velvet, cool chenille or a warm woven mix, choose the right sofa for your lifestyle and you’ll always have a place to get comfortable.
The Sofology Shoreditch: naturally beautiful
What I love about this sofa is its clean lines and classic style combined with a come-hither look that practically begs you to collapse into its cushions so they mould themselves around you. It’s clever too, because the feather fillings beneath the soft linen-like weave or luxurious velvet covers – there’s a choice – are wrapped in soft fibre, so you’ll enjoy cosy comfort during that all-night TV box-set binge or crafty day-time power nap. Its reversible cushions (seats and back) means you can switch them round to keep your sofa looking good for longer – although the frame is guaranteed for 20 years – and when you feel like a change it’s good to know the soft, woven Heron fabric option is 100 percent recyclable. That’s sustainable sofas for you.
The Sofology South Bank: elegantly built
It’s those perfectly pleated arm rests and shapely wooden legs that catch the eye. They’re both designed to give this Sofology South Bank sofa an elegant look that will make your living room appear that little bit bigger. The space underneath the sofa trick is often used by interior designers dressing a show home in new-build property developments and it’s one you can use, too. Add even more glamour with a layer of cushions in complementary or contrasting colours and make sure you do the touch test. If you’re choosing a sofa with durable woven fabric, soften it with cashmere-covered cushions or chunky-knits. The low-backed South Bank comes in a range of sizes, with corner configurations and like its sister sofa, the Shoreditch, the seat and back cushions are reversible, the Heron fabric option is recyclable and the sofa is guaranteed for 20 years.
The Sofology Hyde Park: Fabulously functional
This sofa ticks all the contemporary living boxes: a simple design with the option to choose a two, three and four-seater sofa with add-ons including a chaise longue and – the icing on the cake for me – a storage console with a flexible arm to put your mid-morning coffee on. It’s genius. There’s also a matching armchair and choice of footstools. The Hyde Park has been designed especially for Sofology in nine colours. Global Blush or Global Teal are particularly on-trend but neutrals like Global Oat to Global Charcoal will go with just about anything. It’s particularly pleasing that these sofas have cushions made from recycled plastic bottles with no water used to produce the fabric made from upcycled materials or in the dying process. All wood is from sustainable sources and everything can be recycled – even the solid steel serpentine springs.
The Sofology Huntsman: Lovely leather
It’s the look that never goes out of style: leather sofas are simply classy. The older they get the better they look – as long as it’s good quality leather. Luckily the Huntsman is made from premium Italian leather that will get softer as the years go by and, as it’s also aniline or semi-aniline leather (untreated or barely treated), it’s warm to the touch, too.The Huntsman’s contemporary design makes it a good fit for all interior styles and, like other Sofology styles, its fibre-filled cushions mould to the shape of your body for total comfort. But the real reason I love leather sofas? Because they’re so easy to clean. You can wipe up spills with a damp cloth and brush off pets’ hair in seconds.
