Have you put your tree up yet? According to tradition, you should have your tree in your home at the beginning of Advent, but some people prefer to put their tree up 12 days before Christmas and take it down 12 days after.

No matter when you put your tree up, it’s always the first step to getting your home ready for Christmas. Adding a few handmade touches is a great way to get the whole family in the festive spirit. We’re going to show you how to make some cute festive baubles with the family, using polystyrene balls and craft paper.

Getting started

This craft idea is really simple, but it needs a little prep before you start to design your baubles. Here’s what you’ll need:

Polystyrene baubles   |   Corrugated craft paper   |   Circle craft punch   |   Glue gun or pack of glue dots   |   Christmas bauble tops   |   Ribbon

If you can’t find a circle craft punch, you can draw the circles onto the craft paper and carefully cut them out with scissors.

1

Using the circle punch, make approximately 60 paper circles from the craft paper. If you’re using scissors you will need to cut these circles out by hand.

2

Secure the polystyrene bauble in a cup to stop it moving around while you work on it.

3

Apply the glue to one of the paper circles and attach to the centre of the top of the bauble.

4

Working in layers, continue in this way by attaching the circles underneath each previous layer so that the top edge of each circle is hidden.

5

Continue all the way to the base and attach the final circle on the centre of the base, in the same way as you started.

6

Attach the metal Christmas bauble topper by pushing it through the top centre circle of paper.

7

Cut the ribbon to length, thread through the metal topper and tie in a bow.

8

Glue or tie the loose ends together to form a loop for hanging on the tree.

It really is as simple as that. The materials don’t cost a lot, meaning you could create a bunch of baubles with complementary or contrasting shades.
