It can be tricky to know where to start when you’re repurposing a smaller room. Maximising the space is key and takes careful planning and the right furniture – but don’t worry, we’re here to help.

Transforming a box room into
a hidden gem

Start by measuring your room and drawing a plan so you know what you have to work with. Small spaces offer a great opportunity to create a multipurpose space that can be used for a variety of different things, whether it’s an office, a home gym or an extra bedroom, which means choosing furniture that’s versatile and can adapt.

For example, choosing compact storage solutions can be a great way to tidy up dumbbells or a yoga mat once your workout is over – this can be a side table or a small, discreet storage footstool like our Ashford or Collingdale footstools.

Sofabeds are also a great choice here, like our Abruzzo, Nimbus or Islington sofa ranges, because they’re compact, cosy and stylish but offer plenty of space for guests to stretch out if they stay overnight.

Our Islington sofa recently won Small Space Hero at the Real Homes Awards 2021, who described it as “perfect for anyone who is low on space but has high expectations for style and comfort” while referencing the customisation options and applauding our Woodland Trust partnership.

 Size isn’t everything

Not enough room for a sofa bed? Our Bartelli range features an innovative footstool sofa bed that allows you to save on a lot of precious space and can be pulled out at a moment’s notice. You could put your feet up on this footstool as you work from home at our Lottie console table, which can also be used for accessories or storage when you aren’t working.

There are a lot of solutions to blending working from home with style and comfort, but none are quite like our Hyde Park sofa. Compact and versatile, you can choose to have this sofa as a chaise with a console table, which is a great place to rest your laptop as you work whilst also staying comfy, and you can use the console table for drinks, magazines or the remote control once 5pm rolls around.
