If you cast your mind back to the beginning of 2019, we showed you how to introduce the Dulux Colour of the Year: Spiced Honey into your home. From tonal furniture and feature walls, to the right accents and accessories to complete the look, this colour was a massive hit, influencing styles throughout the year.
For 2020, the spotlight is on Pantone’s Colour of the Year: Classic Blue – a shade that the Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute, Laurie Pressman, says “anticipates what’s going to happen next. What’s the future going to be as we move into the evening hours?” Classic Blue perfectly symbolises the need for stability in a tremendously unstable world, offering reassurance, confidence and a link between people as we enter 2020.
Why not introduce this gorgeous Classic Blue tone into your home and move into the next decade with a sense of optimism? Read on to find out more.
How they choose the colour
According to the Pantone Colour Institute, the annual selection of “Colour of the Year” requires “thoughtful consideration and trend analysis”, with experts at the Institute combing the world looking for new colour influences.
They look at areas like the entertainment industry, film, art collections, fashion, design and travel to help them decide on the colour of the year, making their decision by drawing all these influences together into one, unifying shade.
Get the look: The Lily in Navy/ Blush mix
Thanks to the option of combining a pretty floral accent fabric with a deep navy velvet, the Lily is the perfect choice for introducing a subtle blue hue into your home. Slightly darker than the Classic Blue tone, this shade is nonetheless reminiscent of the dusky tones spoken about by Pantone’s Colour experts. Set against a bright but neutral backdrop made up of a combination of wooden and earthy tones or take a bolder route by painting your walls in Pantone’s Classic Blue shade.
Get the look: The Odessy in Toronto Pacific Blue
Introduce a coastal vibe into your home with the Odessy in Toronto Pacific Blue fabric. As featured in our 2019 TV ad campaign, the Odessy is sleek, edgy and artistically angled, designed to take you on a journey into total, chilled out comfort. Again, although this shade doesn’t perfectly match Pantone’s Classic Blue, it will complement the Pantone tone if it’s used on a feature wall or your accessories. Why not introduce a Classic Blue rug at the centre of your space to fill the void and add the colour of stability to your home?
Get the look: The Gabrielle in Plush Royal/ Royal Ebony Mix
This look is all about accents, like the optional gold trim on our the Gabrielle sofa that complements the deep shade of the Plush Royal blue velvet. A very similar colour to Pantone’s Classic Blue, position the Gabrielle as the focal point of your space and introduce complementary colours across your walls and floors. In-keeping with the gold accent trim, try muted golden decor with wooden furniture and accessories – the scatter cushions, included with the range, are a mixture of gold and blue, helping to bridge the two colours together.
