If you’ve seen our TV ads, you’ll have spotted our sleek white leather sofa – the Odessy. With its edgy angles and clean lines, this chic range would look incredible in any setting, but it was almost made for a coastal inspired interior design vision.

Read on to find out a little more about the Odessy and how we styled it for our ad campaign.

Blue skies

A salty breeze, the haze of the sun on the horizon, the gentle lapping of the waves on the sand – it’s no wonder coastal living is an interior trend that never goes out of style. Whilst we can’t all live in dreamy beachside apartments, there’s always a way to bring beachy vibes into your home.

Start with plenty of natural light – no heavy curtains or dramatic blinds. Floors and walls work best with a stripped back finish, so lift up any carpets and sand down the floorboards underneath. For a classic nautical look, work with a blue and white palette. Deeper blues and shades of navy on a feature wall provide a backdrop of sky and sea – even if there’s no coastline in sight.

Surf’s up

If you get it right, coastal inspired interior design should make you want to grab your board and head out to catch a wave. For our ad, we were lucky enough to work with Cornwall based Lignum Surf who create the most beautiful handcrafted wooden surfboards. A board like this deserves pride of place – hang it where it can be truly appreciated until it’s time to head to the coast and put it to good use.

Not a surfer? Wall art created from driftwood is the perfect alternative – instantly give your space a coastal feel with a driftwood wreath or sculpture. Better yet, take a day trip to the beach and see what you can discover amongst the sand and seaweed – get crafty when you return home and create something unique to hang above the sofa.

Choose accent furniture like coffee tables crafted from pale, weathered wood to complement the beachy scene.

Chill out

It goes without saying that beaches are made for relaxation – which is why a beach themed living room will instantly make you feel more chilled out. To relax in style, you need a sofa that not only gives you room to stretch out, but also delivers on comfort.

The Odessy is designed to help you drift away from the noise and stress of day-to-day life, from the bold, boxy double arm shape to the recessed feet that create the effect of the sofa floating on air. The seats are supportive and cosy – perfect to chill out on after a seaside adventure. Available in a choice of colours, the Odessy will help to inspire and enhance your own interior vision.

Breezy style

Our experts on set spend a long time getting the look just right, from the colour scheme to the accessories that bring the room together – but achieving the look is easy, as long as you know how. Faye Leeming, Sofology’s senior visual merchandiser talks us through the style:

“Our Odessy room set is a modern take on coastal living that uses a traditional blue and white colour scheme – the deep blue hue is inspired by a love of sea, surf and coastal pursuits. We’ve made the look more contemporary with the addition of black accents to add weight and interest to the space.

Achieve the look with sun bleached wooden tables, contemporary abstract art and fresh green botanicals that bring the outside in. Add tactile woven textures in the form of throws and cushions for a homely, on-trend touch, then finish with organic ceramics in neutral shades with splashes of blue and black.”

This ad is beautifully styled. Could you tell me how you achieved the mottled look on the feature blue wall please. Is it a paint effect?

    • Alice Flemming says:

      Hi there,

Thank you for getting in touch.

It was a painted effect by hand, which could be recreated by a painter – but we did get some similar wallpaper printed for our stores. You can find something similar in wallpaper here – https://your4walls.co.uk/collections/concrete-plaster-wallpaper
Also if you get in touch and mention the ad to Leonie she could probably source something nearer in paint colour
