At Sofology, we believe in supporting causes that mean something to us and our customers. We support a number of charities through Pennies donations and volunteer events, with every colleague at Sofology able to take one fully paid day to volunteer for a cause of their choice. In the past, we’ve used these days to help Eat Well MCR, Children’s Hospitals Across Scotland and PAPYRUS, a charity focused on the prevention of young suicide.

We are always looking at ways in which we can support our local communities, especially during tough times. That’s why, during the pandemic, we helped hospitals, care centres and charities with furniture donations to create spaces for their staff and patients alike, so they could rest and relax during the difficult times the country experienced, and in the future.

A tough time for key workers and patients

Our mission has always been to help people feel at home on a sofa they love – however, the demand on healthcare services was huge during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to physical and emotional difficulties for our frontline healthcare workers. They often worked long, exhausting shifts, with time to relax becoming a rare treat. What’s more, patients also felt anxious and worried being away from home during this distressing time, so we wanted to help them as well.

When the message for us was to stay at home, frontline workers and their patients were far away.

A place to relax and recover

To help and support the NHS, over the past two years, we’ve donated sofas like our Gracy, Laurence, Midas and Finchley ranges, and other furniture to numerous hospitals, such as Bangor, Charing Cross and Prince Charles Hospital in Wales, where two sofas went to their staff rooms in their Covid Intensive Care Unit, and one went into the family room. Dr Emily Gott said:

“The sofas are incredible! It’s unbelievable how much they have boosted morale amongst the team. Having somewhere comfortable to sit during our breaks makes such a difference.”

We’ve also supported the Mind 2 Muscle Charity, which specialises in supporting people who suffer with neurological conditions such as Parkinsons and motor neurone disease. We wanted to help out, as they had nowhere to sit after their difficult sessions, so we delivered some sofas to give them a space to relax and recover. @_Mind2Muscle told us:

“Your support has helped to further our mission helping those with neurological conditions and provided a lovely brand new lounge area at @_Mind2Muscle Euro House #Blackburn.”

Hawthorn Family Learning Centre in Midlothian is committed to providing nurturing, respectful support for children and their families, through early years placements and family learning. The space they previously had became run down and uninspiring, so we sent our delivery drivers in with some new sofas, chairs and accessories, so they could create a more comfortable, energising space to give their children the best possible start in life.
